A student gives an apple to his union teacher and asks...

  1. Either union dues are a good investment because they help teachers make more money than they would have otherwise -- OR they charge too much, but aren't able to negotiate good deals for their members.

    You basically can't have it both ways.

    In the context of the comic, it's as if the teacher would give the union a sliver of her apple, which would in turn, help her get a second apple.

    There are *lots* of valid criticisms of teachers' unions, some even shared by teachers, but you'd be hard pressed to find someone who can prove that union dues are a net ROI loss for unionized teachers. It's as if you're willfully trying to ignore the facts.
