Economic Desperation Grips the US all because of Statism

bumper sticker: Democrats equal Food Stamps Republicans equal paychecks
IBD Editorials has an amazing article from a couple days ago called "Desperation on the Rise" There were a few things that I wanted to highlight that I learned:
This year, 3.3 million people are expected to apply to Social Security for disability benefits. That's 700,000 more than in 2008, and a million more than a decade ago. As a result, the Congressional Budget Office expects the program to run out of money in six short years.
1 million new Social Security recipients since 10 years ago.  That's sick.
This isn't the only sign of desperation out there. Nearly 46 million people are on food stamps — a 74% increase from 2007. The number of discouraged workers — those who've given up looking for a job — is 52% higher today than when Obama took office and 41% higher than when the recession ended way back in June 2009. The unemployment rate among blacks has topped 15% for 24 months — and now stands at 15.9%.
A 74% increase in food stamps since 2007??  That's sick.
Finally though they finish with this comment:
this growing sense of desperation is being met only by increased cluelessness from the White House.
It isn't cluelessness, it's on purpose.
