26 Questions from a NPR Liberal to Conservatives
NPR's show ON POINT with Tom Ashbrook had a show February 22, 2011 called Conservatism 101 where the host interviewed people who are involved in a conservative group call "Conservatism 101" that is growing in college campuses where they read conservative thinkers. I was intrigued with the title since I know NPR is hopelessly liberal and I know the host is stuck in the '60s and I wanted to know how they would treat the guests and if they could stand up for themselves. I was not disappointed with the unbelievable questions posed to these kids and to the other guests. I decided to write them down and share them with you along with HOW I WOULD have answered the questions. The reading list was mentioned first which includes among many others: Edmund Burke, Thomas Paine, Robert Bork, Ayn Rand, Milton Freedman, Pat Buchanan and Charles Krauthammer etc.
Questions:
2. Who is teaching it?
3. Is it a full regular course or different?
4. What's the turn out?
5. Will you or do you listen to or read Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh?
6. Are you so sure that these conservative thinkers are not being taught?
Second time this question was asked. The host obviously doesn't believe that these people are not taught at a liberal school!? Later on one of the guests says that he met people at Brown that have never heard of EDMUND BURKE!?!
7. Are you sure they are not out there? Are you sure you they are missing?
Third time this similar question was asked. Get a clue Tom!
8. Who's backing the Conservatism 101, Katy?
I bet he wanted her to say "Americans for Prosperity" or the Koch Brothers. But she didn't.
9. Is Conservatism 101 a proselytizing project?
And liberalism is not. And what exactly is wrong with trying to sway someone's opinion to your own? There's nothing wrong when liberals want to proselytize, but when it's about conservatism...
10. What do you hope to find from this?
11. If there's not more representation of these thinkers on American campuses, why do you think that is so?
FOURTH TIME he still doesn't believe it. I wanted the guests to shout in unison: BECAUSE UNIVERSITIES ARE LIBERAL! DUH!
12. Are you trying to bring Conservatism to triumph in Academe?
Just a ridiculous question.
13. Terrance, you're head of the Republican Club at Brown University, is it popular? Are you lonely as a conservative?
Why, if these writers are being taught on campus would his group be lonely? These questions are not a joke. They are real.
14. Do you think you'll go in conservative and come out a liberal? (chuckle.)
As if that's a good thing. As if that's just what happens when you go to university in the US.
15. (To the Dean at Brown University) Does opening your doors to this course mean that something was out of whack before?
16. (To the Dean at Brown University) Is there a comparable class at Brown for Liberalism 101?
The perfect answer for this question: Well Tom, nobody would take Liberalism 101 because there would be no difference between their normal classes and liberalism 101.
17. Do you think we need more conservatism taught in University then? Looking at Republican representation in congress state houses, do we need this class to have a ground for understanding between US citizens when we're talking about big issues of the time? Or is the balance about right and it's just so Terrance (the guy at Brown) can show an initiative in his personal life and university life?
Yeah, conservatives can't have answers for the big issues of our time. What balance are you talking about Tom? You believe that these conservative thinkers are being taught on campus so what balance are you talking about? I just saw a video of the guy Terrance in the show, he's black which I didn't know from the show since it's radio, but if the host was a conservative and the guest was a black liberal, this last part of the question would be considered racist. "Good job black man trying to bring different views but we all know that you are voting against your own self interests!" is what the liberals are really saying.
18. Steve Calabresi is a founder of the Federalist society, are you confident that you'll get a dispassionate, scholarly, approach to conservatism (chuckle chuckle) when it's taught in this class? When it's taught by a leading conservative figure?
This was one of the biggest shockers. Conservatives can't be scholarly. Wake up Tom. Maybe we should have a conservative teach Liberalism 101 and a liberal teaching Conservatism 101, right?
19. Do you think this will lead to more engagement? Or are you building a conservative fortress?
Again, if you are a conservative you are a cave man like, medieval type Neanderthal.
20. But your backers are saying that they want to create engagement or to train troops?
Add militaristic to the last comment.
21. Does this really build bridges or build bulwarks to oppose each other?
Add haters to the last 2 comments.
22. How do you guard against close mindedness?
I would have shot the question right back at him.
23. Quotes a tweet from David Frum. Are you open to a tough critique of conservatism? Some groups view conservatism as a "know nothing" group.
I know Mark Levin would be rolling his eyes at this one. In response I would have simply said, "David Frum is not a conservative." If pressed I would reply, "Just because an apple says that it's a rutabaga, doesn't mean that it's a rutabaga."
24. Terrance, (the guy from Brown) are you looking to roll back the enlightenment itself? Are you saying "No Thank you?"
This was from a caller who had a couple good things to say about the root of the differences between liberalism and conservatism and how it all started from the enlightenment and the perfectability of man.
25. To Katie (University of Arizona graduate) If it would all go your way what would it look like?
26. Do you think the country would be more fiercely polarized or less? (chuckles)
With that bomb of a question he gave her really no time to respond of course.

OUCH that hurt! My take on "Where Have The Good Men Gone?" by Kay S. Hymowitz
After reading the Wall Street Journal's article from Saturday February 19, 2011 called "Where Have all the Good Men Gone?" by Kay S. Hymowitz, there are a couple quotes that I thought were interesting.
Ouch. That one hurt. At least the one about Star Wars. The other two things, Playstation and trips to Vegas, were not things that I ever did. Thankfully my mom and dad were somewhat against the whole video game thing though I got into computer games a bit but we never did have a video game system. I am convinced that if I had a video game system I would ruin my life. I wouldn't be able to stop playing. I have made a pact with myself that when I'm retired and have nothing to do then I'll play video games. But at that point the video game world will have expanded leaps and bounds from what it is today. There might even be a sector of the business that caters to seniors like I will be when I can start playing. I mean after all, the vast majority of the elderly at that point of time will have had video games all of our lives so it would be understood that we would need video games when we're old.
I am annoyed that this article mentions Hollywood so much but I guess it is true that the behavior that the author abhors is a perfect example of what you see on the silver screen.
This is just sad. But I would have to say that a lot of this is due to the school loans and the need for a job to pay said school loans back. If Government would get out of the school loan business and allow schools to compete with ever lowering tuition costs then and only then would we get back to a more reasonable age for people to get married. But at this point, only my Christian college is where I heard of people getting married right out of school. I waited almost 10 years to get married while I globe hopped and squeaked out a living in Boston and Shanghai, China which is beside the point.
I found this quote though to be quite troublesome:
This really hits home about my own life and about my 3 year old little boy. I'll let him have fun for a few years but when it comes time for responsibility he'll have to take the bull by the horns and lead with courage and fortitude while being stoic and faithful. I have some work to do myself!
"Guys talk about 'Star Wars' like it's not a movie made for people half their age; a guy's idea of a perfect night is a hang around the PlayStation with his bandmates, or a trip to Vegas with his college friends.... They are more like the kids we babysat than the dads who drove us home."

Thankfully my mom and dad were somewhat against the whole video game thing though I got into computer games a bit but we never did have a video game system. For most of us, the cultural habitat of pre-adulthood no longer seems noteworthy. After all, popular culture has been crowded with pre-adults for almost two decades. Hollywood started the affair in the early 1990s with movies like "Singles," "Reality Bites," "Single White Female" and "Swingers." Television soon deepened the relationship, giving us the agreeable company of Monica, Joey, Rachel and Ross; Jerry, Elaine, George and Kramer; Carrie, Miranda, et al.
Well, that one didn't hurt. Kind of. I haven't seen any of those movies mentioned therefore I have not been shaped by the ideas and issues pushed by those movies. But unfortunately I do know each of those people's first names at the end of the quote. Monica, Joey, Rachel and Ross all refer to FRIENDS which I used to watch when I was in high school with my friends at our weekly "Friends and Seinfeld" nights. (Seinfeld is also cited with the names Jerry, Elaine, George and Kramer.) Carrie and Miranda, I'm sad to know this, refers to Sex in the City. Each of these TV shows constantly conveyed men in a way that did bother me. Jerry was not a hero in any sense of the word. George was a total loser and Kramer was a wacko. In Friends, Joey, Ross and the other guys were losers who couldn't hold jobs and were promiscuous. The women of course in all those shows were worse, sleeping with everything they could but it wasn't considered such a bad thing I guess. I'm convinced that if Friends and Seinfeld and Sex in the City were remotely realistic, everyone of them would have STDs and all living in a hospital ward. That had to have been a MAD Magazine spoof at some point.
Still, for these women, one key question won't go away: Where have the good men gone? Their male peers often come across as aging frat boys, maladroit geeks or grubby slackers—a gender gap neatly crystallized by the director Judd Apatow in his hit 2007 movie "Knocked Up." The story's hero is 23-year-old Ben Stone (Seth Rogen), who has a drunken fling with Allison Scott (Katherine Heigl) and gets her pregnant. Ben lives in a Los Angeles crash pad with a group of grubby friends who spend their days playing videogames, smoking pot and unsuccessfully planning to launch a porn website. Allison, by contrast, is on her way up as a television reporter and lives in a neatly kept apartment with what appear to be clean sheets and towels. Once she decides to have the baby, she figures out what needs to be done and does it. Ben can only stumble his way toward being a responsible grownup.
This one didn't hurt either because I somehow missed this movie. But the story is all too familiar. Once the guy's fulfillment of 2 minutes of pleasure becomes his worst nightmare he is forced to be a halfway decent person who now has offspring. Besides the fact that a guy who is responsible, doesn't have a drunken fling with a girl he just met and actually plans on being a father, not having it foisted on him by a pregnancy test, isn't Hollywood material, I think women today would be suspicious of a guy like that. Take that classic Red Sox movie from a couple years ago called FEVER PITCH when the girl in the movie tells her friends about this school teacher guy who is perfect.
They don't believe her and even after meeting him and getting really impressed with him they still think there is something wrong with him. Nobody is that perfect. Of course he was obsessed with the Red Sox which isn't really a problem. But you get my point, he was funny, responsible (even though after they started dating they slept together which then crosses responsible off the list) smart and that's about it. When confronted with the possibility that the girl was pregnant we find that he had gone and purchased a Red Sox "onesie" for the infant as if he was planning on having a baby the whole time. Confusing. A guy who is in the relationship clearly for "guy" reasons suddenly seems responsible when the inevitable happens. Very confusing.
Unlike adolescents, however, pre-adults don't know what is supposed to come next. For them, marriage and parenthood come in many forms, or can be skipped altogether. In 1970, just 16% of Americans ages 25 to 29 had never been married; today that's true of an astonishing 55% of the age group. In the U.S., the mean age at first marriage has been climbing toward 30 (a point past which it has already gone in much of Europe). It is no wonder that so many young Americans suffer through a "quarter-life crisis," a period of depression and worry over their future.
Most guys today think of marriage and married life in these exact words from the article:
Husbands, wives and children are a drag on the footloose life required for the early career track and identity search.
I found this quote though to be quite troublesome:
It's been an almost universal rule of civilization that girls became women simply by reaching physical maturity, but boys had to pass a test. They needed to demonstrate courage, physical prowess or mastery of the necessary skills. The goal was to prove their competence as protectors and providers. Today, however, with women moving ahead in our advanced economy, husbands and fathers are now optional, and the qualities of character men once needed to play their roles—fortitude, stoicism, courage, fidelity—are obsolete, even a little embarrassing.
Troublesome because where in today's world does a boy learn how to pass the test of courage, physical prowess and the skills? Where can a boy learn how to play their roles of fortitude, stoicism, courage and fidelity? Where can we find people who don't find these things to be embarrassing? Where can we find a woman who thinks men should be this way!? Let me go ahead and define those last words:
1. fortitude: strength of mind that enables one to endure adversity with courage
2. stoicism: an indifference to pleasure or pain
3. courage: a quality of spirit that enables you to face danger or pain without showing fear
4. fidelity: the quality of being faithful
Perhaps the issue isn't that men have changed but that women have changed as the last quote has mentioned. "Husbands and Fathers are optional." For men, women will always be essential. But even the idea that "for women, men are essential too" is almost certain to get women in a tizzy over how sexist you sound. If for a generation you've communicated that men are optional, you can't blame a boy for acting like he's optional.
The last paragraph sums it up nicely.
Relatively affluent, free of family responsibilities, and entertained by an array of media devoted to his every pleasure, the single young man can live in pig heaven—and often does. Women put up with him for a while, but then in fear and disgust either give up on any idea of a husband and kids or just go to a sperm bank and get the DNA without the troublesome man. But these rational choices on the part of women only serve to legitimize men's attachment to the sand box. Why should they grow up? No one needs them anyway. There's nothing they have to do.
This really hits home about my own life and about my 3 year old little boy. I'll let him have fun for a few years but when it comes time for responsibility he'll have to take the bull by the horns and lead with courage and fortitude while being stoic and faithful. I have some work to do myself!

OBAMA'S WTF PLAN: Trains, Windmills, Great Leap Forward
This was inspired by a part of Rush's Show from February 17th talking about how Trains and Windmills and his Great Leap Forward will really be a Great Leap Backward. Or what Rush says: Obama’s “Win The Future” Plan Is A 175 Year Step Backwards:

Mr. Capitalism Kills AIDS
According to the Investor's Business Daily's Editorial called CAPITALISM KILLS AIDS:
Most of these quotes were found on REDDIT. A bastion of morons and self loathing miscreants.
The New York-based American Council on Science and Health this week published "Whatever Happened to AIDS?" and its findings should shame the many politicians — even some claiming to be pro-business — for whom Big Pharma is a convenient villain.Of course liberals across the web have some other ridiculous things to say. Here's a couple quotes from Liberals Extrordinairre:
"Read the headline. The author should f---ing kill himself."No clue what this moron is trying to say. Whatever.
"Now that the gays are equal no one cares about aids, it's like having a cold.."Ok. Sounds pretty cynical.
"Chronic but manageable? But not cured, and thus not killed. Perhaps it should be re-phrased "What transformed AIDS into a lifelong revenue stream?""This is classic liberals. They live in a society that provides them with a cure for their own stupid behavior and they complain that those people are going to make money. But then they would complain if the disease was never cured! Unbelievable!
"Name one viral disease that we have ever cured."Well, AIDS for one is preventable in most cases by proper behavior. But that's not what most liberals want to hear. Plus he tries to include himself in the cure of diseases. Hilarious. Well sir, YOU haven't cured anything because of your support of a president and leftist morons who want to tax the pants of anyone who makes money!?

Lynching Black Conservatives is OK for Liberal Progressives
Say what? Lynching black conservatives? No way. Yes way.
Over here at the Daily Caller they inform us that the NAACP hasn't said a thing yet about people calling for Clarence Thomas to be "strung up" and to "get back to the fields."
Yet at Entertainment.com they post the cartoon that is supposed to be racist.
Leave it to MSNBC to go on a really creepy rant about the cartoonists and their families.
And if you want some real racism on the left, check out this post over at Alternet where they refer to Herman Cain as "a monkey" and "a black garbage pail kid!"
If you don't want to go there and read the whole thing, Big Journalism has a good piece about it.

Hey Tea Party and Republicans: There's nothing wrong with Speaking Chinese. It's the TEA party after all...
Back on January 30th 2011 on NBC's Meet the Press, a Republican Strategist Mike Murphy was talking with David Gregory about Obama and the Republicans tackling our entitlements:
MR. GREGORY: ...I spent time with, with President Obama this week, among other journalists, and a small group with Speaker Boehner. And what I detect out of both sessions is that there is a high level of caution about getting into the boat of taking on the big entitlements alone.MR. MURPHY: Right. Right.MR. GREGORY: You saw what happened with health care, the Republicans used it against him.MR. MURPHY: Right.MR. GREGORY: Are we going to really see Washington get serious?MR. MURPHY: I hope we do because the stakes are higher than ever with the entitlement crisis we face. And I don't want to have to learn Chinese in 10 years.
At CPAC (Conservative Political Action Committee) this weekend Amy Kremer of the Tea Party Express was talking about putting a conservative in the White House in 2012. Agreed. But her reasoning was a bit off kilter.
She then said,
"I'm not ready to speak Chinese. I don't want to speak Chinese. This is America."
I don't agree. I mean I agree that this is America of course.
If, heaven forbid, Obama is re-elected in 2012 I don't think it will lead to everyone in America learning Chinese. I know what she's trying to say. The more Obama is in charge the more America will suck, (although not according to Michael Medved) thus making it more important for us mono-lingual Americans to start learning other languages, Chinese being an important one.
But isn't this a good thing? Americans learning different languages? I'm a rare American. I can speak passable Mandarin Chinese. My wife is from Shanghai. We run a website that promotes Chinese culture across the world. (No, we're not shills for the PRC government. We're doing it out of our own capitalistic intentions.) Learning Chinese or any language is not something that Americans should fear and want to demonize. Americans have a respect for people who speak multiple languages. We respect the opportunities there are for those people who are bilingual or trilingual.
The Tea Party should not embrace those idea that Americans should not learn other languages. Imagine the Tea Party International? The Tea Party translating their literature in a multiple languages!? Imagine spreading the idea of the tea party to all corners of the world!? We know that the socialistic ideas and Marxist ideology is already in multiple languages. Let the liberals think that English is enough. Let the liberals make fun of themselves for only knowing one language.
I haven't heard any reaction to Mike Murphy's comment on NBC. There was chuckling on the set on Meet the Press so I suppose that the other people agree with him. But the reactions across the left wing media to what Amy Kremer said is pretty sad. They immediately talk about her physical appearance. Which is funny because you have people who anonymously post things on the internet about a person who has the guts to go public with their opinions and ideas and appearance.

Why Does Obama Hate the British People?
From Investor's Business Daily article called, "The Betrayal of Great Britain":
Love, Most Americans.
According to diplomatic cables obtained by Britain's Daily Telegraph, mined from the thousands of classified documents released by WikiLeaks, the U.S. government agreed to provide Russia with information on the British nuclear deterrent as part of the deal behind the ratification and signing of the New START treaty.Dear British People: Many Americans don't feel the same as our president.
Love, Most Americans.

Breitbart Site Reader vs. MSNBC viewer
I'm a reader of Breitbart's sites as much as I can and I also listen to as many MSNBC podcasts as I can. It's so sad the differences in coverage. The thing about Breitbart is that they cover both sides. MSNBC only tells us about how bad one side is.

DOWN WITH THE KOCH BROTHERS!!!!
These sickos out there protesting the Koch Brothers are pretty bad. It was out in California and Breitbart had all these videos up. I wish I was there to ask the simple question that the guy on the left asks.
Here's a video of these sickos. Notice the Liberal's shirt and what it says. This video explains it.:

Helen Jones-Kelley Should Never Be Hired by Government Again
This was inspired by Big Government's post the other day about Helen Jones-Kelley and how she's been re-hired by Montgomery County, Ohio I assume, where she'll probably be the inside person on more conspiracies for the Obama administration!
Let me just say the obvious: If this was a white government worker who OK'd the looking up of records for a black worker/normal citizen... this would have been a totally different story.
But since it was the other way around...
Thanks to Big Gov't I now know her name.
And I'll never forget it!

Herman Cain: Name Calling
This is the last of our Herman Cain week in comics. He ROCKS! I've been listening to his shows from Atlanta. He has a saying explaining how liberals argue: S.I.N. Shifting the Subject, Ignoring the Facts, and Name calling.
